ProLiteracy and the NAAL
Presenter: Robert Wedgeworth
In December 2005 the U.S. Department of Education released the long-delayed National
Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL) based on data collected in 2003. ProLiteracy
Worldwide prepared media kits to assist its affiliates in their response to this
report. For whom is the report intended? What do the data mean? Why is this report
significant? These are only a few of the questions we are attempting to assist
the field in answering. The continued loss of jobs to other parts of the world
through outsourcing, the projections that current educational programs are now
preparing adults for the new jobs being created, and the lack of a comprehensive
strategy to get more Americans working up to their true potential are factors
that motivate ProLiteracy. This presentation will discuss the NAAL report and
outline our strategy in response to these new data on the state of adult literacy
in the United States. |
