The 45th Annual PAACE Conference on Adult Education, the largest gathering of adult educators in Pennsylvania, will be held June 1 - 3, 2010 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel in State College. Adult educators, administrators, researchers, tutors, and practitioners from related workforce and education fields are invited to attend this premier professional development and networking opportunity.

This year's conference will feature:

  • Keynote speaker Byron Pitts, chief national correspondent for the CBS Evening News and a "60 Minutes" contributor. Pitts recently authored his memoirs titled, "Step Out on Nothing," where he shared his story of overcoming childhood illiteracy. He also wrote and delivered a news piece on illiteracy titled: Battling the Scourge of Illiteracy that ran on CBS Sunday Morning Show.

  • Concurrent sessions highlighting the latest research and best practices for adult education
  • Networking events including luncheons, banquets, and a pizza party
  • Fun evening events including the Presidents and Newcomers Reception, PAACE Night Caribbean Party, and the PDC Hospitality Suite
  • Honorary Conference Chair, Verizon, which supports partnerships to improve education, literacy, safety, and health through its foundation.

Conference Registration

Conference registration is now open. This year's conference registration will include:

  • Access to all concurrent sessions, the keynote speaker Byron Pitts' presentation, Bureau of ABLE general session, and all Marketplace exhibits and activities
  • 2 full buffet lunches (Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • Presidents and Newcomers Reception

Exhibitors:

We would like to invite commercial, non-commercial and craft vendors to participate in our marketplace. The PAACE Conference is the largest gathering of adult education field in Pennsylvania. The marketplace provides you with the opportunity to reach administrators, teachers, volunteer tutors, professional developers, professors, researchers, and state department agency staff related to adult and continuing education.

The exhibit hours are: Tuesday,  June 1, 11 am-8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, June 2,  9 am-5 p.m and Thursday, June 3, 9 am -12 pm.  Please read the additional information for exhibitors.

Presenter Information

The Pennsylvania Association for Adult Continuing Education (PAACE) invites you to submit a proposal for presentation at the 2010 PAACE Conference to be held in State College, Pennsylvania.

The conference committee is interested in outstanding and innovative practices in all aspects of adult education including basic literacy, basic numeracy, workforce development, family literacy, English as a Second Language, volunteer/community-based literacy, correctional education, and all other areas. The program committee is looking for presentations based on successful implementation, current research, and sound practice.

PAACE requests that you and your colleagues submit a proposal for a concurrent session or an informal roundtable discussion. Submit your proposal in one of the following 11 categories:

Aligned with PAACE Divisions:

  • Adult Basic and Secondary Education (ABSE)
  • Adult Literacy
  • Continuing Higher Education (CHE)
  • Corrections Education
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Family Literacy
  • Workforce Development

Special Categories:

  • Administration
  • Public Policy
  • Research
Or:
  • General - of interest to a broad adult education audience and/or does not fit neatly into one of the above categories.

To submit a proposal:

  1. Read the 2010 Call for Presenters which has important information about submitting a presentation
  2. Complete the online proposal form
  3. Proposals are due no later than February 1, 2010.

This year's conference has moved to the beautiful Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel in State College. This change in venue will provide a great location for the conference as well as new opportunities for conference activities.
